Viennese Coffee by Austrian Airlines

aua_logo-300x111Austrian-Coffee2It’s comes as no surprise to regular readers here that I am travel obsessed and a real airline nerd to boot.   There is always a list of airlines I want to fly, Austrian Airlines being high on my list, in no small part because I hear they offer excellent service and because they fly to Vienna, somewhere I have always wanted to go and have yet to manage to get to.

This morning I saw an email from one of my favorite travel bloggers Lucky at One Mile at a Time.  He’s flown on Austrian a few times and it was his reviews that really got me psyched about trying to book a flight on Austrian. This morning’s email was actually about another blogger’s experience, Southern Travel Girl, who had flown business class on Austrian and was disappointed that they didn’t offer the “coffee menu” on her flight. Apparently one of the things that is so amazing about flying Austrian Airlines is that they offer a full “coffee menu” in their premium cabins to give one the feeling of being in a flying Viennese coffee-house. Cool, right?

After posting about her Austrian Airlines experience and saying how she was disappointed that the coffee menu was not offered the PR people at Austrian reached out to her via Twitter had a nice back and forth with her and that was that….but wait, no it wasn’t!  To make a long story short Austrian sent Southern Girl a red suitcase filled with two mugs two coffee glasses, a coffee pot, a milk foam making contraption, coffee, chocolate and a linen napkin so she could make her own coffee at home!  The full story with pictures can be read at Southern Travel Girl.  On so many levels I love this story, first off what a great gesture on Austrians behalf, they had already contacted her they really didn’t need to do anything more.  When you watch the video below you also see that this was not a small gesture it certainly took time, effort and money to pull off and yes it does have the desired effect of making one have a good opinion of Austrian Airlines….and when was the last time you had a good opinion of any large corporation especially an airline?

Yes there is a food angle here: I always thought in order to froth milk you needed one of those steam things, but after watching this video I see there is a much lower tech easier solution.  I think there is a Sacher Torte in my future.  Thanks to Lucky and Southern Travel Girl for sharing this great story!
