Building a Cold Frame

It’s been a while since I posted a Kevin Kossowan video, I’ve missed him !  So I went over to his site to see if I had missed anything and sure enough here was this great video of him building a cold frame for his salad patch, just as it would turn out, in the nick of time.

In part I am always envious of people who can build things like this, with such apparent ease, mostly though where I go with it is how what it would be like to have the space to have a garden that required a cold frame.   Of course here in New York we seem tobe having less and less need of cold frames as there is no cold.  3 days ago I took this picture of the cherry tree in bloom out front of our apartment.  Still I like the idea that just in case there is a frost I’d be able to go out to my rooftop garden and get some fresh greens for dinner.

I love my neighborhood (the Lower East Side of Manhattan) and I love to travel. Because NYC is such a big place I tend to focus mostly on my 'hood and the ones that are close by: The East Village, Bowery, Chinatown and Williamsburg. My love of travel has no limits really, I'm always ready to get on a plane. I was lucky enough to have a business for many years that allowed me to spend a lot of time in South East Asia. These days I've been spending time in Mexico, Germany, Canada and the West Coast of the U.S., but check back you never know where I might end up.
